Get Scraped!
Graston Technique/Scraping therapy
This technique helps break up scar tissue and adhesions, flush out toxins, stagnant blood, inflammation, and fluid, it also helps increase mobility and function, decreases pain, and improves rehabilitation. In office, we combine this technique with stretching and exercises, at home therapies, and lifestyle modications to help speed up the healing process.
Common conditions treated:
Tendinopathies: Achilles tendinopathy, patellar tendinopathy, lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow), medial epicondylitis (golfer’s elbow)
Muscle strains and myofascial restrictions
Post-surgical or post-injury scar adherence
Plantar fasciitis
Rotator cuff tendinopathy and shoulder impingement-related soft-tissue restrictions
Shin splints (medial tibial stress syndrome)
IT band syndrome and other overuse disorders
Side effects:
Reddness/Bruising
Soreness/Tenderness lasting 24-72 hours
Temporary increased inflammation/swelling of treated area
Graston has a wide variety of benefits with improvements seen almost immediately and when combined with other modalities, stretches and exercises, you are well on your healing way! My favorite combo is adding cupping therapy and stretching, and an addition of electrical muscle stimulation in more acute situations. As always, make sure to discuss your case with your healthcare professional for the right protocol for you.
